The Orange Box

Greets, and a good Samhain to you all. It's been a while since I last posted, though I've been a lot more active in the forum these days... it has historically been a better format for me anyway since it feels less like publishing and more like conversation. I'll probably just mainly blog for tips and howto's in the future, and post everything else in the forum (so definitely sign up if you haven't already).

The allure of getting 5 great games for 50 bucks was too tempting to resist, so I purchased Valve's "Orange Box" over the weekend. Interestingly enough, it was actually an impulse purchase at Best Buys (I never got around to playing any of the Half Life games, but heard too much positive feedback to ignore it any longer). I was mainly going for some blank CD's- so I bring both items to the register, and actually get ID'ed by a diligent cashier... mind you, I just turned 36 last week, so this was a bit unexpected. I've been told I look really young for my age, but I didn't think they were in the habit of aggressively checking ID's for video games these days! (Especially in my case when I'm so obviously older than 17... I still dress youngish, but have greying sideburns and even had 2 days of stubble for chrissakes...)

As simultaneously amusing and annoying as it was (annoying because I believe I was 17 before the said cashier was even born, and also because many 15-16 year olds are being denied a perfectly good outlet), I feel it was a very well-spent $50 so far (bravo for offering this, Valve... you're now one of my new favorite game developers). So now I have something else to detract me from more important things during the evening- I can't wait to try out "Team Fortress 2" and "Portal" when I'm done with all 3 "Half Life 2" episodes... I might even look into getting the first one later. :D
