Happy new year, everyone. My year's off to an excellent start. Bear witness- for I am employed once more... and thus, my plans of becoming a filthy vagrant are now undone. Since I've got a couple of weeks before my first day at Duke, I decided I had time for my biennial site-revamping ritual.
Every time I do this, I notice how the web just becomes more and more dynamic. When I started learning HTML back in 1996 or so, I just linked up a bunch of *.html pages, threw some flashy graphics in an "images" directory (with a few animated gif's for some PIZZAZ), and admittedly even embedded some lame-ass midi file that abruptly played in the background, jarring your spouse/mate/cat awake at 2 in the morning, cause I'm just that important. Then came this DHTML thing with layers flying around, more precise placement with CSS and JavaScript for animation, etc. The next incarnation of the MZ saw much heavier use of CSS and XHTML, which featured random style sheets onLoad to give it a "fresh" appearance. (Yep, it was pretty annoying.) For the last two years, the MZ was still static, though Blogger gave the illusion of a CMS by remotely uploading the index from a web interface... I quite liked this workflow.
Enter 2007, and the MorphZone is completely database-driven and controlled by Drupal, also utilizing the ingenious Gallery2 core for my gallery's back-end. CMS's are nothing new, but I never considered using one for a small personal site like mine until last year. The old methods of site design I employed 10 years ago seem even more distant to me now. For more reading on migrating your own site, I recommend "Migrating to Drupal", ",Drupal: Powerful and Free, But Some Assembly Required" & Lullabot's podcasts for good introductions, and the Drupal handbook & forums for more detailed information.
So, aside from having to enter the rest of the site's data, there's still the little matter of the new design (there are plenty of free themes available, but I'm hoping to create my own look). So once again the MorphZone continues to evolve. Other things on the agenda are filling up the rest of my gallery and putting together a decent forum. I actually stuck my old and once-popular wallpapers (that have been offline for years) in the gallery under Archives in case anyone's feeling nostalgic. They're woefully outdated and not likely to impress anyone, so just consider them "antiques". (I'm really going to make an effort towards making art/wallpaper this year, despite starting a new career.)
Thanks to all of the friends who have stuck with me over the years, and to the more recent ones who have donated their time to sniff my brainfarts- I really do appreciate it, since you could be watching "Flavor of Love", staring down your cat (again), creating a new funny-walk, trying to go 5 minutes without thinking of penguins, or trying to find stupid things on Google Maps. For this, you have my sincere gratitude.

Since I was in high school,
Since I was in high school, I’ve taken the often unpopular role of ACLU supporter. While everyone else bitched about the things they fought, I supported them payday loans, because I believed that if a legitimate violation of the people’s rights were to happen, that the ACLU would be at the front of the fight against government-enforced fascism.
During the past several years, I have witnessed several prime violations of the rights of Adult americans debt help. This isn’t a case of some 15 year old being told he can’t wear his promotional satanism t-shirt to school. This is a case of laws being written & voted into law in clear violation of the rights of adults.
I speak of the following:
1) Smoking ban in Chicago, Portland, New York, and several other localities
2) Trans fat ban in New York dental insurance, and several other localities
3) The upcoming ban of black automobiles in California
Each of these laws, and probably many others I haven’t heard about are a direct violation of the rights of Americans.
Nobody should be able to tell a bar owner that he cannot allow smoking in his bar. It should be his god damn decision bankruptcy, and nobody else’s. If there’s enough consumer demand to ban smoking, the bar owner can ban it himself. The city should have no fucking say in the matter.
