Maya 6.5 Announced
First off, let us rejoice, I've finally completed the format of the new and improved MorphZone! Be sure to tell your friends and enemies alike! Note the content is much thinner than it was a year ago (ie. wallpaper and renders), because I realized a lot of it SUCKED... well, that's harsh, let's say they were just DATED... (to give you an idea, most were done with trueSpace 2, Poser 2, and Bryce 3D! GACK!). At least it's a good opportunity to fill those sections up again with work that better represents my abilities in THIS century.
Now, on to the meat: Alias has just announced a point release of Maya, so now it's currently at 6.5. Myself and probably the rest of the community were hoping for an integrated NLA system, since they did purchase Motionbuilder from Kaydara, but no such luck (Softimage breaths a sigh of relief...). But I'm personally not an animator anyway, so no biggie; the main reason behind this release is the new mental ray 3.4 system, complete with Satellite network rendering- very cool for mray users (but maybe not so cool for studios who've used the Renderman standard for years). It also looks like further performance upgrades, and improvements to the existing tools like artisan as well. The price- $899 from 6.0 to 6.5 for Complete, and $1249 for Unlimited.
